Summary

After being declared a biosphere reservation by UNESCO, in 1989 the Basque Parliament approved the Urdaibai law. Such steps opened the way for this territory situated in Busturialdea and the community around it to start on the quest for sustainability. The rural environment plays a fundamental role in the planning and management of the Urdaibai biosphere reservation, since in this level there are exceptional natural and cultural values, together with the services and instruments that are necessary for society. Besides, we cannot forget about rural society.
