Summary

The 5th Conference (2012) on the History of Plentzia and Uribe Kosta focused on the 3rd Civil War (1936-39) and the effects of Franco’s dictatorship in the region. The democratically-elected political majorities were defeated by the military rebellion of 1936, led by the anti-liberals and traditionalists, among others.  The consequent reprisals lasted for decades. Both political and violent conflicts are analysed, along with their serious human, social and economic consequences.
