Summary

This work analyzes the historical and institutional context of the notarial offices in Gipuzkoaduring the 17th century, focusing on Juan Bautista de Barrenechea (1601-1678). Through theanalysis of his biography and the notarial records he produced in his role as a public and municipalnotary for the town council of Elgoibar, the study aims to shed light on various aspects of the livesof these public officials in Gipuzkoa, exploring their living standards, family networks, and worksystems.
