Summary

This paper represents a study of women repression in the prison of Álava, focusing onthose incarcerated in the Provincial Prison of Vitoria during the Spanish Civil War. To this end,a prosopographical analysis has been conducted based on data extracted from primary sourcesconcerning the women imprisoned there, with their prison records serving as the main source.This approach has made it possible to accurately reconstruct the socioeconomic characteristics ofthe inmates, as well as the emerging Francoist regime’s penitentiary policy and the gender-basedrepression aimed at the subjugation of women.
