Summary
The pilgrimages prompted by the Church in Biscay during the period of industrialisation advocated the image of the Virgin of Begoña as a religious icon. Outstanding were the convocations of 1880, 1900 and 1903. These massive callings from the Church adapted to the requirements of the new society to promote traditional religiousness. They were responded to in Bilbao by large sectors.
