Summary
From time to time, in Gipuzkoa, references turn up on the fact that an animal that was referred to as a tiger or leopard had been found dead. In the documents, reference is made to a reward granted in 1603 to the hunters from Villafranca for killing an "onza" (wild cat) and three years later, a "tiguere" was killed in Ataun. These animals belonged to the fauna in Gipuzkoa since tiger is translated in Basque as "katamotza", however, it is believed that they were in fact lynxes.
