The European Union -the biggest technological market in the world- can impose the practices implanted within it as a competitiveness tool. The integration of the concept of sustainable development in all the policies, not only in R+D+I but in R+D+I as a priority, may reinforce its position in the renewal of products and processes. In this way the position held in Göteborg consisting of "unleashing a new wave of technological innovation and investment, generating growth and employment" would become true.
