There is a theory that it asserts that Basque pastorals are an imitation of performances which date back to a period between the end of the Middle Ages and the 16th century. When the music in the Basque pastoral is compared with that of the Breton theatre, it is observed that they share a common base that dates back to ancient theatre performances from northern and central France
