Summary
This paper introduces this special issue of the RIEV on Large Techno-Social (LTS) systems. LTS are intricate infrastructures intertwining technology and society. These multifaceted, multiscale systems are subject to dynamic societal regulations and market forces, and hence, must adapt to internal and external changes. We highlight their fragility and sensitivity to constraints, and contend that the consideration of regulatory layers and local patterns becomes crucial for the effective implementation and enforcement of LTS.
