The author studies the surnames of youths of military age selected for service in Donostia - San Sebastián in 1913. They make up a list of 1042 of which two-thirds are Basque surnames. Of these, 52% of the youths have both surnames in Basque. On the other hand the author asserts that the preposition "de" and the article are exclusively Castilian since Basque does not have any.
