Summary

Trainera competition are sports races 12-metre boats, which during the 19th century were dedicated to fishing, and which competed in a festive atmosphere in the main towns of the Basque country and Cantabrian sea. In the following years this type of boats became lighter and faster, becoming famous throughout the Cantabrian coast as a sporting event, competing to obtain the flag of the organizing town. With the passing of the years and the improvement in transportation, the teams travelled to other more remote locations, increasing the interest in these traditional confrontations until today, where more than 100 competitions are held annually.
