Summary

This article gathers and discusses the two great levels in which to approach the problems of the ageing of the population and the availability of economic resources among the elderly. From a macro-theoretical point of view, it clarifies the great effects of the demographic ageing process; a second micro-theoretical approach deals with the economic position of elderly citizens, a position that is strongly influenced by the social institution of retirement and other generational, family and social elements.
