Summary

We try to study in this work the names of the Basque harbours in Biskaia Bay. We have studied these names in sailing direction books written by Basque authors of the 16thand 17th centuries. The most important authors we habe studied are Oiarzabal, Poza and Detxeberri. They wrotte their books in three different languages, according to the use of their kingdom. So one is in French, the other in Spanish and the third and more interesting one is in Basque. We try also to find this Basque names in the North Atlantic fisheries where Basque sailors went at that time to fish cod and hunt wales.
