Summary

The present article describes the main trends of Basque painting during General Franco´s dictatorship. The period witnessed intense confrontation among diverse stylistic options which were often identified with different ideological creeds. Ranging from conservative parameters to the incorporation of abstract art, and the revolution it brought forth, this rich artistic period includes events and artists core to the history of Basque art.
