Summary

The first anthropological studies on the Basque population were carried out in the mid XIXth century following the cephalometric and osteolgical approaches given by the Antrhropological Society of Paris. "Eusko Ikaskuntza" was founded in 1918 and instituionalised anthropology in the Basque Country. The "Sociedad de Estudios Aranzadi" was founded later. The early stages of the Basque Anthropology are dominated by Aranzadi, Barandiarán and Eguren
