Summary

Biological paternity testing is involved in the investigation of the paternity in those cases in which a biological relation between a progenitor and a descendant is in doubt. Nowadays, it is possible to analize the genetic background that any person received from his mother and from the assumed father. When the assumed father has the genetic characteristics inherited by the descendant, there exists a probability of paternity ; on the contrary, if the assumed father does not posses those characteristics, he is excluded as biological father. These analyses can be performed by studying regions of hipervariable DNA, or minisatelite DNA, which enables us to obtain probabilities of paternity higher than 99,9%.
