Summary

Etymology of the word "urki" (birch-tree) that some people consider of Celtic origin. According to the author, there is no place in Euskal Herria with that name, although some hamlets, mountains, etc. may have been named thus. Comparing with the Latin and the Celtic languages on the one hand, and the Germanic and Asian on the other, it can be observed that it has more similarities with the last two, above all with the German word "burki" when compared with "bürkhï" (from the Basque dialect from Soule). This could indicate that the word does not belong to the Basque language
