Summary

The war of Algeria (1954-1962) was a war that, while it was happening, was not even called that way. It was just - according to the terminology of those times - just "police operations"! However, it deeply marked individuals and consciences, in the Basque Country as well as elsewhere. One hundred and two Basque youths died in that conflict. Over forty years have passed since the end of that war. The colloquy in the Town Hall of Cambo-les-Bains on 21st June 2003 attempted - in a spirit of tolerance and respect for all ideas, as is traditional in Eusko Ikaskuntza - to study the repercussions of that war in the Basque Country.
